Your favorite trivia game app?

Main Post:

I have tried the Jeopardy official app but it seems pay-to-win and full of typical corporate microtransactions and nonsense. Do you have a favorite app that quickly matches you with people for a quick trivia game?

(Ideally it would go through your wrong answers after a match so you can grow your learning)

I’m thinking something like how chess.com app works, no-nonsense free matchmaking for quick fair gameplay.

thanks

Top Comment: RIP QuizUp. It was great.

Where are all the good trivia games??

Main Post:

I know not everyone likes or appreciates trivia games, and that some don't even consider them to be "games" — But! I love them. Not really for the game mechanics (which often get in the way of the trivia) because I love the trivia.

Trivial Pursuit seems to have the most questions on the market, and in my experience they tend to have the best questions. I know some editions are worse than others, but overall they stay fresh and there's enough variety that it takes awhile before you learn them all.

I have not had this experience with other trivia games. Granted, I have not played very many other games, but that is because most of the other games I see look awful. Either trivia takes a backseat to various enabling mechanics that become the focus, or the trivia is mixed in with other puzzles and mini games, or the questions just plain suck. Why is this?? Why aren't there more trivia games?? Is there no market for this?? Am I really in such a small minority of people??

Question: Best current-gen trivia game?

Main Post:

I want to stream trivia games on my Discord server, but I’ve only really liked a few trivia games. I personally like the clever types of questions that promote lateral thinking. The game should be playable by 1 player or multiple. Anyone have any recommendations?

I have only a PC, and I’d have to play on PC anyway to stream the games.

  • You Don’t Know Jack: Full Stream from the Jackbox Party Pack 5 — My favorite so far, but I’ve played it so much that I want new ones.
  • The Wheel of Enormous Proportions from the Jackbox Party Pack 8 — The question types are varied and interesting, but having one-half major RNG mechanics one-half hardcore trivia, ruins both halves for me, like each half makes the other half irrelevant.
  • Trivia Trick — Tried playing it on Steam Remote Play, but it was just a basic 4-choice trivia game with no major twist.
  • Trivial Pursuit Live and Live 2 — The question types seem pretty interesting, but I feel like Live 2’s price point is a bit steep, considering that the main new addition is a Twitch stream specific feature, and that the UI got way smaller and less accessible than Live 1.
  • Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? — The latest one is pretty lackluster, and I’m not really looking for hardcore trivia like WWTBAM has.

Top Comment: Party Quiz is my favourite, I just played it again recently and they are still adding new features. There's quizes with memes and video games, rebus puzzles, image, video or sound questions, everything. I like that you can really customise the settings now, like answering time and stuff

Online Trivia Competitions

Main Post:

Hi! I am 17 years old, and I love to watch Jeopardy every single night. I would like to get into competitive trivia, but I don’t know where to start. My high school does not have a quiz bowl team, so that’s out of the question, and popular websites like LearnedLeague are invite-only. If anyone has any suggestions as to where I can play, that would be awesome! Both online or in-person competitions works! I also can’t do bar trivia, since I am underage, and cannot sit at a bar.

Top Comment: Thrice is a really good daily trivia game - https://thrice.geekswhodrink.com/ I'd also recommend watching the old seasons of Jeopardy on pluto.tv and going through the Learned League archives for questions from previous seasons.

Best Trivia app/website on the Internet?

Main Post:

Don't know if this has been asked for, but I haven't found a good alternative ever since QuizUp was shut down. What do you guys use for casual quizzing?

If I'm gonna waste time on my phone anyway, I'd rather do it on a quiz app than cycle through an endless tirade of YT shorts.

Top Comment: Sporcle is still the best, although it's better from a computer, or from a tablet when viewing the full desktop site. Easily over a million quizzes to choose from.
